What works

What makes one land

A walk-up song is the length of the walk from the on-deck circle to the box, so it is really a ten-second song. The whole thing has to happen in that window: the name over the PA, the first beat, the hook. That is why the ones that work are rarely the ones you would pick for a car ride.

They start at the right place, which is almost never the beginning of the track. They are recognizable in one bar, because the crowd has no time to work it out. And they belong to the player: the best walk-up on any team is usually the one a nine-year-old chose themselves, which is why the lists below are not one list. A baseball dugout and a softball dugout do not pick the same songs.

Both lists are what teams actually played, counted anonymously inside GameDay Music over the last 90 days.

In the app

How a walk-up runs in the app

From the Baseball Game Day walkthrough: the screen you run the whole game from.

The lineup

Game Day opens on the At Bat tab with your batting order underneath: on deck, in the hole, and everyone after them.

Now Batting

The card at the top shows who is up and the walk-up that plays as they come to the plate. Tap any player to play theirs; they become the current batter and the order moves with you.

The announcer

With voice introductions on, the announcer calls the name first and the song follows, or the song ducks under the call, whichever you set. Turn the switch off and the walk-ups still play, just without the voice.

The cut point

Each walk-up starts where you set it, so the first thing the field hears is the hook. Stop, Pause and Fade sit under the board all game, in the same spot every time.

No Starter Set here

Why baseball is built per player

There is no baseball Starter Set yet. The hockey and football packs fill a board of team buttons in one tap, but a walk-up is one player's own song, so baseball is built the other way round: every batter on the roster gets their own, and the DJ Board buttons (Home Run, Big Hit, Steal and the rest) are loaded on top.

Questions

Before you load anything

Do I need Apple Music?

No. With an Apple Music subscription you can search its catalog for each player's walk-up inside the app. Without one, GameDay Music plays songs already on the phone, from your library or imported as files. On Android the app plays your own files.

Can I use my own files?

Yes. Any MP3, M4A or WAV on the phone can be a walk-up, a button song or a playlist track, and a roster can mix Apple Music and files. The Local Audio walkthrough shows the import.

How do cut points work?

Every walk-up carries its own start point, so the song fires straight into the part the player wants instead of the intro. You can move it, set an end point, and the announcer delay decides how long the music runs before the name lands.

Can parents request songs?

Yes. Start a fan request session and show the QR code, or share the link. People scan it on their own phone, search for a song and submit; requests land on your device sorted by votes, and the between-innings music is the natural place to play them. Nothing plays until you tap it.
