This is the question people ask before they download, and the answer is better than most expect. GameDay Music does not require Apple Music, Spotify, or any other subscription. If you own the songs, you can fire them.
What the app actually needs is a file it is allowed to start, stop, seek and duck under an announcer. A song on your phone is all of those things. A song inside someone else's streaming app usually is not, and the rest of this page explains why.

Songs already on your phone
WorksMP3s you bought and downloaded — from Amazon Music or anywhere else — and anything already sitting on the phone. Add them to the Audio Library once and they load onto any button, with their own start points. Nothing streams, so nothing buffers at a rink with one bar of signal. No music subscription needed, on iPhone or Android.

Apple Music
WorksConnect it and the whole catalog is available inside the app: search a song, assign it to a player or a button, set the second it starts. Works on iPhone and, since October 2026, on Android as well. Optional, not required.

Amazon Music
Not yetThis is the one we expect to change. Amazon has no open developer program for playback — it has been a closed beta for more than a year, with no public signup — so no outside app can play an Amazon Music subscription, ours included. We have made the case to Amazon directly. If that door opens we will build it: plenty of families already pay for Amazon Music through Prime and have never had a way to use it at a game.

Spotify
No direct linkSpotify's SDKs only let another app remote-control the Spotify app, so the audio comes out of their player rather than ours. That rules out the announcer ducking under the song, a horn on top of it, and the fade. Their developer terms also limit use to private personal use and prohibit modifying or altering their content, which a start point does. We will add it the day those rules change.

YouTube Music
No direct linkYouTube's developer policies prohibit separating audio from video, prohibit background playback, and require an app to reflect the standard YouTube experience, ads included. A goal song that fires instantly, audio only, while you are looking at the board breaks all three. Premium does not change it: Premium is an entitlement on your account inside YouTube's own app, and there is no way for another app to inherit it.
